Happy New Year, dahlins! I'm still working on the January holiday piece but here's a heads up on how to spend the first holiday of the year, New Year's Day.
New Year's Day is one of those lovely holidays that can be enjoyed fully without any obligation to anyone. As a student in transition, I have no major responsibilities like providing for a household, maintaining deadlines, or running a multi-million dollar corporation, yet. I have no worries aside from grad applications and finding a relevant job, ha. But today I am not thinking about that. I am relaxing and spending the day with people I love.
New Years Day is to be spent with loved ones. Those could be friends, family, significant other(s), pets, neighbors, books, television, strangers that you encounter, or your self ( <3 that link, btw).

The beginning of a new year is a fresh start, a blank slate of sorts, and you should feel comfortable during this time. Not to get all cliche or cheesy but, in addition to the year, this is the first day of the rest your life-- let's not forget about those resolutions; it wouldn't hurt to share those ideas with those whom you are completely open. I've resolved to write one poem a week; be nicer to myself; and to seize the day. Being around people I love and sharing these goals has already made it easier. They can help you commence with good vibes and keep you on track through their friendly inquiries throughout the year.
I'm celebrating this day with those that I love, near and far. This morning I spent time with the tools of my craft, pencil and paper. At this moment I am sharing my thoughts with you, delightful folks of the interwebs. I messaged my long distance friends and compiled a post of a few portraits that I've taken of them with my handy-dandy cell phone. And after I'm done with this, I'm going to hangout with my Dad.
So whether you're heading over to a neighbor's to have black-eyed peas and collard greens, thrifting with the homies, or getting cozy with a boyfriend, book, or lamp enjoy the freshness of a new beginning. Share. Besos.
